Fear of Delving Into the Emotions |

| Even though we’ve been conditioned to not look at our feelings. We don’t want to go digging around
in there. Maybe it’ll be scary. Or we’ll be embarrassed or ashamed or frustrated. I realize today we don’t need to
be afraid of our emotions. They’re just stories. It’s how we keep our history in line. We don’t need to be afraid
of that, we’ve already been there. |
Top of Head
Sometimes I stuff my emotions and I realize today that I really don’t want to do that.
SE
I’m not sure why I’m so afraid of my feelings and the stories behind them.
UE
Maybe it’s because I’ve been building up the pressure.
UN
Trying to hold those feelings down.
CHIN
I don’t want to look at those stories.
CB
They might make me look bad.
UA
Or I might have to actually feel those feelings.
RIBS
Maybe I’m afraid of my feelings.
Top of Head
Maybe I just don’t like uncomfortable feelings.
BE
How weird am I?
SE
We just want to feel good.
UE
And looking at those stories doesn’t feel good.
UN
I wonder if I could get it —
CHIN
That once you look at the bad, the negative, the fearful, it shrinks and dissolves.
CB
It’s like running from my shadow.
UA
It can’t hurt me.
RIBS
It may feel uncomfortable until I process the energy.
Top of head
But that’s why it keeps chasing me.
BE
Because that energy really wants to be dissolved.
SE
All that disruptive energy.
UE
It just wants to be released.
UN
And if I keep running
CHIN
It’ll just keep growing.
CB
But if I stop and have a conversation with it —
UA
That first few minutes might feel really uncomfortable.
RIBS
But like a huge wave of emotion —
Top of Head
Once that first wave hits, all the others will be smaller.
BE
I can be brave and dig my feet into the sand.
SE
And stand firm as I think about these stories and the feelings they bring.
UE
It’s just energy.
UN
I’ve never read that somebody died from an emotion.
CHIN
Like they just died from being overwhelmed with emotion?
CB
Nobody’s ever done that.
UA
Because that energy automatically dissipates once we face it.
RIBS
| And once all that negative, disruptive energy has all dissolved, we get what we wanted in the first place.
We get to feel good! |
